Emergency Response Pool

The Emergency Response Pool qualification is designed to assist operators to meet industry guidance. This training and assessment programme is endorsed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK and is intended to support safer swimming at small, shallow pools such as those typically found at many hotels, leisure clubs, holiday parks, private fitness facilities and other similar establishments.

Paragraph 193 of the HSE publication “Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools” states – Whenever the pool is in use, a member of staff will need to be designated as “on call” to respond immediately to the alarm and deal with any emergency. It is essential that such staff are trained in pool rescue, CPR techniques and first aid.

Prerequisites – Every candidate, prior to commencement of training must:

Be 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment

Be confident around water

Course content:

Section 1 – The emergency responder’s role, Pool Safety Operating Procedures, types of pools & swimmer safety information

Section 2 – Responding to an emergency and the Emergency Action Plan

Section 3 – CPR and First Aid (inc basic AED use)

Additional subjects can be added to the syllabus:

Total hours with AED Bolt-on = 14.5 hours

Total hours with Spinal Board Bolt-on = 15 hours (without AED)

Total hours with AED and Spinal Board Bolt-ons = 16.5 hours

The Emergency Response Pool programme is also designed to train ancillary staff to backup and support the lifeguard team (if available) and staff that respond to an emergency. 
To comply with the HSE publication ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’, pool operators are strongly recommended to refer to figure 3 on page 66, to determine if continuous or occasional poolside supervision is required.

This course is delivered on site at the clients venue and requires a minimum of 4 participants. IS+Training is unable to supply the venue so unable to deliver this course to individuals. Group bookings with access to a swimming pool only.
